AN EXCELLENT MUST READ!

The Evolutionary Argument Against Reality
The cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman uses evolutionary game theory to show that our perceptions of an independent reality must be illusions.

"As we go about our daily lives, we tend to assume that our perceptions — sights, sounds, textures, tastes — are an accurate portrayal of the real world. Sure, when we stop and think about it — or when we find ourselves fooled by a perceptual illusion — we realize with a jolt that what we perceive is never the world directly, but rather our brain’s best guess at what that world is like, a kind of internal simulation of an external reality. Still, we bank on the fact that our simulation is a reasonably decent one. If it wasn’t, wouldn’t evolution have weeded us out by now? The true reality might be forever beyond our reach, but surely our senses give us at least an inkling of what it’s really like."

"Not so, says Donald D. Hoffman, a professor of cognitive science at the University of California, Irvine. Hoffman has spent the past three decades studying perception, artificial intelligence, evolutionary game theory and the brain, and his conclusion is a dramatic one: The world presented to us by our perceptions is nothing like reality. What’s more, he says, we have evolution itself to thank for this magnificent illusion, as it maximizes evolutionary fitness by driving truth to extinction."

My response to a recent accusation that I was "Closed Minded":

Knowledge Tree
I have seen things that many people have not seen and/or don't believe to be true. That does not mean I expect others to believe me 100%, without any kind of evidence or scientific proof.  My mind is very open, and hopefully one day our further understanding of all things Quantum Mechanics, as well as other branches of Physics and Science will help us know many more facts about the world around us, and what is and isn't really possible.  I also know that many people experience many things that are purely subjective or spiritual experiences, and no one person's perception of reality is the same as that of anyone else's.  Because of this we need to rely on the Scientific Process to weed out what is based on Universal Scientific Law, and is therefore repeatable thus shown to be true and fact based, from that which is just an interesting possibility but which can't be repeated, so can't be proven true in any way.

Science leads to new information which can be used to clarify and substantiate many things that in the past were thought to be false or were unheard of.  It is a continuing process that builds upon itself.

There are many possibilities out there that are interesting to read about or chase after, but I choose to spend my limited time and energy on those that I can actually have some hope of collecting evidence for, and in turn proof of
.
Currently Bigfoot fits that criteria perfectly!

Rhettman Mullis Explains The Release of His Conversation With Dr. Melba Ketchum  "For those of you who think the "Angel DNA" conversation with Dr. Melba Ketchum released yesterday is photoshopped, here's the truth from the person who released it. Bigfootology.com's Rhetman Mullis had urged Dr. Melba Ketchum to "do the right thing" and collaborate with other scientists such as Dr. Sykes to ensure her methodology and science was sound. In early 2012, after submitting samples and having long conversations with Ketchum, Rhetman realized that there was a problem and found Ketchum's conclusions highly "questionable". Here's a statement from Rhettman Mullis regarding Dr. Melba Ketchum and why he chose to release his conversations with her:"   Read the full story here:  Bigfoot Evidence

Brian Cox - Rock Star Of Physics!  One of my favorite people because he knows Science is COOL! Physicist Brian Cox has two jobs: working with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and explaining big science to the general public. He is a professor at the University of Manchester.  TED
"I am suddenly relieved. I worry about the future of the nation, the world, the universe.  But if it were to end up in the hands of the students who joined us in the 702 Mornings studio today, all things being equal, I think we'll be alright."
Evolution Is A Fact
"All the student questions were declared by Brian to be either good, great or excellent.  This one I think he was particularly passionate about. But in a world of scarce resources, should scientists have the luxury of research for its own sake, when schools and roads and hospitals call on those resources?  "Time and again history shows you that trying to understand nature as a goal leads to the most wonderful discoveries that change civilisation. It's impossible to know which bit of that discovery is going to lead to something useful. "You'd never get electric light by doing R&D on a candle," he said. In fact one of Brian's friends, who was one day fiddling with some sticky tape and a pencil, discovered a new form of carbon called graphene - Andre Geim, Russian born british Dutch physicist and joint physics Nobel prize winner. Graphene could well be used to make lighter, more efficient aircraft wings for example, reducing pollution and fuel consumption.  I think we'll be playing grabs of Brian Cox on this issue to all the politicians who come to us trying to justify cuts to pure research." Has Ketchum Committed Professional Suicide?

Well Melba Ketchum has just hammered the last nail into the coffin of her scientific credibility. She has created a website posing as a real Scientific Journal in order to publish her own paper without any actual review or corroboration from other members of the Academic Community.  This is not how legitimate data becomes part of our scientific knowledge base.  This is how those who practice Pseudoscience operate.  Read about the announcement here: Bigfoot Evidence

This, "Denovo A Scientific Journal", is a brand new website with no history of actual publications. I can find no record of this being a real "Journal" or any past issues or papers from other authors that have been published by them.  She has just created this as a way to fool the naive into thinking she has been accepted by a real peer reviewed journal. Anyone can make up a fake Journal on a new Website and publish anything they want. This proves nothing except that she is the fraud all of us who have been practicing critical thinking have come to believe she was months ago...... Registered through: GoDaddy.com, LLC (http://www.godaddy.com/) Domain Name: DENOVOJOURNAL.COM Created on: 04-Feb-13 Expires on: 04-Feb-14 Last Updated on: 04-Feb-13  Ding Dong the Fraud has just committed professional suicide.  Long live Dr Sykes..........

Read about pseudoscience and why real peer review is imperative to real science here:
What Is Science And Is It Important To Bigfoot?

UDATE - The Scientific Community is weighing in: From  SciGuy - A science blog with Eric Berger   "If Ketchum really had the goods she would have co-authored the paper with reputable scientists and gotten the work published in a reputable scientific journal. Instead she’s playing to an audience that doesn’t understand how science works, that wants to believe Bigfoot exists and is willing to send her some cash to further their delusions."   ________________________________________________

From scienceblogs.com   "How did she get it published? Well, she says she bought an existing journal and renamed it (the Journal of Cosmology was on the market, and I hoped most fervently that that was it…but no, JoC is still online). So she owns the journal. It’s now called De Novo. Then she came out with a special edition. It’s Volume 1, Issue 1. It contains precisely one paper, hers. You should be laughing by this point."   ________________________________________________

From Doubtful News: "We finally see the other authors, at least. Note that none are academics, but forensic specialists. Problem one.

Problem two: This is a brand new journal. Was it launched JUST for this paper? Well, this is an interesting and HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS twist. We do not know what the standards are for review. There are no rules for starting up your own journal and calling it “peer reviewed”. And, indeed, that’s what was done

Problem three: The paper costs $30 to download. No academic institution is going to have access to a new journal site so they will have to pay to review it. Some Bigfoot bloggers have received embargoed copies. Bigfoot bloggers. With NO scientific qualifications. I have yet to see any genetic specialists comment on the paper but it’s very early and I expect some will. I have requested access to the paper.
Problem four: Excuses. Check this out from the Sasquatch Genome Project page My initial opinions of this latest news? It’s a fiasco. It’s unprofessional and disappointing. The websites are amateurish, the goals are delusional and it smacks of a self-serving money-making venture. Melba has positioned herself as a self-named expert with additional projects set up to collect funds and protect an animal she insists exists. It has not been confirmed, contrary to her opinion that she has “proven” it."

PROJECT NIM: OR HOW NOT TO TREAT OUR CLOSEST KNOWN (OR UNKNOWN) LIVING RELATIVES

No matter how close our DNA, they are not we and we are not they......... Nadia Moore

I have not yet had a chance to watch this film in it's entirety myself, but from everything I have read, viewed and discussed with those who have, I think it serves as a chilling example of the arrogance of human kind when it comes to the other creatures sharing our planet.  Yes we are all fascinated by finding out what Sasquatch are, how they think, how they are like us and how they are different, but I hope no one's curiosity, especially in the name of science, puts a Bigfoot in this kind of situation, ever, even with the best of intentions. This failed attempt at raising an infant Chimpanzee as a human proved that he was incapable of adapting to the ways of the humans around him, and subjected him to years of physical and psychological mistreatment.
"From the Oscar-winning team behind MAN ON WIRE comes the story of Nim, the chimpanzee who in the 1970s became the focus of a landmark experiment which aimed to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. Following Nim's extraordinary journey through human society, and the enduring impact he makes on the people he meets along the way, the film is an unflinching and unsentimental biography of an animal we tried to make human. What we learn about his true nature - and indeed our own - is comic, revealing and profoundly unsettling."

My latest article for the Discovering Bigfoot Blog of the Bigfoot Discovery Museum and Project can be viewed here: The "Patty" Recreation of Bill Munns. You can view pictures from his recent presentation at Discovery Day V where he talked about, among other things, the recreation of the "costume" described by Bob Heironimus in his claim that he was hired by Roger Patterson to be the object of Roger's film. Not only has Bob been unable to describe the actual location where the film was made, let alone how to get there, but Bill's work has now proven once and for all that the "costume" as described by Heironimus is structurally, anatomically, and logistically incapable of portraying what is in the famous 1967 Film.
Head tilt needed to portray Patty can not be duplicated in Bob's football helmet head.

Bigfoot Artist Alexa Evans Under Attack

Alexa Evans at work

Now that the not so nice Dr. (Melba Ketchum) has alienated all factions of the Bigfoot community with her truly self serving and litigious nature, from those who tried to work with her in her DNA "study", to the artist Alex Evans who provided drawings for her website, all the way to Thom Cantrall (Ghosts of Ruby Ridge), once her biggest supporter, who will she have left to merchandise her "products" to?  I guess there are always those who believe everything they hear on Coast to Coast Radio....... Could it be that those of us in the "Flesh and Blood" camp and those in the "Forest People Friends" camp will end up on the same side of this argument in 2013? I predict YES!  Stay tuned for more truth about Melba Ketchum in the very near future..... Many, like myself, who have been privy to her back room antics have had serious doubts about her for about 2 years now, ever since her first claims that "publication" was imminent" back in early 2011 failed to produce any results.  I had renewed hope after her legitimate scientific presentation at the Primal People Conference in May, where I had the great privilege of meeting Alex in person, even though Dr. Ketchum did not show up in the flesh herself as promised. And I still hope she has some legitimate data that can be correctly interpreted by qualified people if it is ever handed over for review.  But I have given up on the idea that she will ever publish any kind of valid interpretation herself.....

"Melba,
I saw today's post on the Bigfoot Evidence blog that your website has been hacked, and that my artwork still appears on your project website. Since you gave me such a hard time over paying for the two paintings you commissioned from me well over a year ago, I no longer want my art associated with you. I hereby demand that you remove all of my art from the Sasquatch Genome Project's website. In addition, I demand that my art be removed from the Sasquatch Preservation Alliance's website. I also demand that you not use the art I prepared for your designer clothing label, Authentic Sasquatch Wildwear, as well as the various designs I did for your t-shirt sales program. You no longer have my permission to use any of my art for any reason whatsoever. Remember, I never signed over my copyright, or any document, giving you exclusive or limited permission, or one of your NDAs.
Alex"

  1. Hi Nadia,

I'm a 76 yr Englishman, living in Birmingham. U.K. I came across your blog today after a Google search related to Bigfoot. I've read a few pages of your opinions and am moved to respond.

I'm interested in some of your statements regarding Bigfoot and science and the nature of belief. As I personally think that the existence of Bigfoot being unrecognized by science, challenges the very basis of science.

You for example, had a scary physical experience, which you know was real, though not in terms that science would accept. This applies to ALL those very many encounter experiences people have been having for years. It is termed 'anecdotal' by science and as you write, it is subjective

    Quote:

"I also know that many people experience many things that are purely subjective or spiritual experiences, and no one person's perception of reality is the same as that of anyone else's. Because of this we need to rely on the Scientific Process to weed out what is based on Universal Scientific Law and is therefore repeatable and shown to be true and fact based, from that which is just an interesting possibility but which can't be repeated so can't be proven in any way. Science leads to new information which can be used to clarify and substantiate many things that in the past were thought to be false or were not known. It is a continuing process that builds upon itself."

I would reply, that every single human perceives/experiences life, in purely subjective terms. i.e. Your particular view and understanding of reality, even if in scientific terms, is a purely personal one. You believe (Like most scientists) that only the scientific method can 'weed out' unrealistic interpretations of reality. You eulogize about 'Brian Cox' because he too believes the same - that science is the only reliable method to 'validate' what is truly real, or not. I think you are both believers in the 'Religion' of 'Science'. This is a faith based view of reality, that has consequent flaws, because it views 'Reality' as 'Physical' and 'Out there!' This 'viewpoint' which science has adopted, is a particular 'conception' about the nature of reality, and in my view its a flawed one. It is wholly 'unrealistic' to conceive 'physical reality' to be a 'separate' process. Something divorced from subjectivity etc. This is stupidity on a grand scale in my view, and leads to innumerable blocks and inaccuracies, regarding the true nature of reality. (Something that you have said is your desire to know!) You may discover many things which 'appear' to be 'Facts' (Universal truths) But in reality, these discovered 'facts' are far less absolute than science may imagine.

If you (Science) construe physical reality to be separate from the consciousness of self - then you will 'only' validate that prior adopted assumption. It's a self-fulfilling philosophy.

Too rigid an adherence to only accepting those realities which can be validated in physically replicable terms, only leads to situations like the Bigfoot phenomenon - where people (Like yourself) have actual physical experiences and have them classified as 'not real' because 'subjective', or 'anecdotal. For me, any scientific method which views so many 'physical experiences' in such terms, is laughable.

It insults the people who have those experiences. It shows that science is a rigid belief system itself and one that is failing its own ideals!

If science really wants to understand 'Reality' let alone, the so-called 'physical universe' it had better examine its own fundamental assumptions! Which amount in essence to a belief system!

Hope you find my rant at least a little 'thought-provoking'! :-)
Thanks for your 'interesting' opinions. I enjoyed your candour!
